Biography:

I have recently completed my Masters in Project Management from the University of Southern Queensland, a formal qualification needed to support my daily involvement in managing projects within SROS. I have been with SROS since establishment and my first degree is a Bachelor of Applied Science in Food Science & Technology from the University of Queensland in 1999. My first job was with the Food Safety Laboratory within the Public Health for a few months before I moved to the Samoa Water Authority Laboratory where I was the Team Leader for 6 years. In 2007 I joined the newly formed Scientific Research and was the first employee of the Food Science & Technology Division. In this same year I completed my part time study for a Bachelor of Commerce at NUS.

Areas of expertise and interest include quality management systems, food safety, new product development and research into food related issues. Other areas of interest include administration and human resource management.

Some of Work undertaken and Projects involved in and/or managed include;

•  Consultancy work for the Food and Agricultural Organisation - to undertake food safety and risk assessments for three selected fruit and vegetable chains as part of its Technical Cooperation Programme with the Ministry of Agriculture.
•  Cocoa fermentation research - A comparative study of local best practice with a proven overseas fermentation method (Pacific Horticultural Agricultural Market Access -PHAMA programme)
•  Taro improvement programme PARDI/2011/004 - conducting sensory and nutritional evaluation for new taro varieties (Pacific Agri-business Research and Development Initiative)
•  Developing the frozen pathway for taro -PHAMA programme
•  Extraction of vanillin using ultrasound
•  Postharvest Treatments: A vehicle for good economic returns on breadfruit and papaya exports
•  Production & Composition of Avocado Oil utilizing Samoan Avocado Cultivars (completed)
•  Producing Flour from local staple food
•  Managed two separate Water Quality Monitoring Contracts for SPREP (sea water) and SMEC (freshwater) - for the ADB funded Afulilo Reservoir Augmentation Project
•  The Effects of Chemical and Microbiological Contamination on Vaitoloa Mangrove and its Ecosystem
•  Literature Review on Avocado Oil - The plant & the oil
•  Laboratory Accreditation
