FAO SIDS Solutions Forum 2024: Showcasing Samoa’s Cocoa and Agribusiness Innovations

The 2024 FAO SIDS Solutions Forum, held from 5-8 November in Fiji, brought together leaders and innovators from the Pacific region to discuss transformative solutions for agrifood systems. The Scientific Research Organisation of Samoa (SROS) actively participated, contributing to discussions on the theme of “Building the Blue Pacific Continent through Production and a Better Environment.”

Workshop validates Samoa’s first National Science, Technology and Innovation Policy,paving way to launch at CHOGM

Representatives of line ministries with a stake in science, technology and innovation for development and representatives of the National University of Samoa have validated the draft National Science, Technology and Innovation Policy at a workshop at Nafanua convened on 2nd October by the Honorable Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries. The involvement of multiple ministries reflects the fact that, as the minister put it, ‘science is everywhere’. The workshop was hosted by the Scientific Research Organisation of Samoa.

Strengthening Samoa’s Quality Infrastructure: An Insightful Visit to SROS by International Experts and Ministries

In a significant step toward developing a National Quality Policy for Samoa, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Labour, in collaboration with the PACER Plus Program and the British Standards Institution (BSI Group), organized a series of face-to-face stakeholder consultations. A key highlight of these efforts was the site visit to the Scientific Research Organization of Samoa (SROS) by Dr. George Bamopoulos and Dr. Nahyun Kim from the BSI Group, along with representatives from the Kiribati Ministry of Commerce Industry & Cooperatives (MCIC) and the Samoa Ministry of Commerce Industry and Labour (MCIL).
